NLP is a provider of town planning advisory services and employs Chartered Town Planners and other staff to enable it to conduct its business. The operation of our business involves some impacts on the environment. We are committed to seeking to minimise these impacts within the context of the need to maintain an economically viable business. It is imperative that NLP is a sustainable on-going business concern if we are to fully meet the obligations to our staff. This policy sets out our commitment to managing those aspects of our business which affect the environment as well as measures to review our performance.

Minimising NLP’s environmental impact is a key component of our Core Value to ‘Be a Responsible Member of the Community’. This environmental policy sets out how NLP intends to manage the aspects of our business which affect the environment as well as measures to review our performance.

To maximise the environmental benefits of our business, NLP is committed to the following strategic objectives:

  1. Compliance with relevant environmental legislation and good practice
  2. Continuous improvement in environmental performance which is monitored on a regular basis
  3. Dissemination of our policy to staff and clients
  4. Being a responsible member of the communities within which our business operates

To minimise the day to day impact of our business activities upon the environment, the following specific objectives have been identified. NLP will:

  1. Support the use of public transport, cycling and walking both for commuting and travelling when at work to minimise the impact of CO2 emissions
  2. Continue developing efficient working practices to minimise trips and energy consumption
  3. Seek to recycle materials and minimise waste production
  4. Promote the efficient use of energy and water within all of NLP’s offices
  5. Reduce paper consumption

This policy has been formulated following a full audit of existing practices and how they can be improved. This has resulted in an Operating Plan being put into place to ensure the objectives set out in this policy are met. The Plan identifies actions to improve our environmental sustainability. It also makes provision for staff training and how we will raise awareness of this policy and the Operating Plan within NLP.

The Managing Director is responsible for the implementation of this policy. It will be reviewed on an annual basis. The Operating Plan is monitored by the Inter-Office Group which is a management meeting attended by each of the Office Leaders and chaired by the Managing Director.
