NLP spoke at the 'Planning for New Economic Realities' seminar in Manchester on 15th April. The event focused on how planning and economic development policy might respond to a challenging economic outlook and PPS4's policy objectives. NLP's papers, by Ciaran Gunne Jones, Jacqui Deans and Matthew Spry, examined the prospects for the economy and appropriate policy responses, together with the manifestos of the three main political parties.
NLP Director and chair of the event, Justin Gartland said: "It was good to share current thinking on a range of economic issues with practitioners in the region. The presentations highlighted how local economic assessment (LEA), guidance in PPS4, and new planning tools can give greater focus to economic development objectives as part of spatial planning and other policy and investment choices. This is essential in order to safeguard recovery and support longer term growth in a much more challenging economic environment".
