NLP secured planning permission for the new passenger terminal, visitor centre and railway station at Southend Airport, including liaison with the Civil Aviation Authority, regarding adjustments to the runway and safety zones. The new facilities, which are now under construction, will provide a fast link direct to the financial heart of the City of London, putting Southend firmly on the London aviation map.
The airport was acquired from Regional Airports Limited by Eddie Stobart in 2009 and they are now taking the proposals forward.
David Gavin, NLP Director, commented 'After many years hard work it is heartening to see this ambitious project proceed making a significant contribution to the regeneration of Southend's economy. This is vitally important in the light of recent Government announcements in respect of aviation in the south east and demonstrates how important is the growth of smaller airports to the economy.'
